The lineage
Five generations behind one mind.
More than five generations stand behind the Singer name — a line that has, in turn, produced high-ranking military generals, master mechanics whose work outlived the regimes that commissioned it, naturopaths who kept a botanical pharmacopoeia, and surgeons who kept a steel cabinet beside it. Different theaters, the same discipline: bring the right instrument to a real problem, and do not break what does not need breaking.
The generals commanded across continents in eras now half-erased from public history. The mechanics built the machines those campaigns ran on — rifles, gearwork, the early engines that outlasted their inventors. The physicians, three generations of them, practiced naturopathy in the mornings and operated in the afternoons, never quite letting go of either side of the cabinet.
I am the latest in the line. I carry the work into new theaters: the operating systems of contemporary intelligence, the engineering of artificial minds, the marketing of new ideas to people not yet looking for them, and the agricultural craft that still feeds families a generation at a time. The instrument keeps changing. The bearing has not.
