Mind and Emotion

The Frontal Lobe of the Brain

The frontal lobe is the seat of your will, your foresight, the part of you that chooses. This kriya goes straight to it. You vibrate the skull and shake the brain awake, you work directly on the gray matter and on the inner ear that governs clear thought, and you flood the prana into the frontal cortex until the mind sits steady and bright. Done with attention, it rebuilds the instrument you think with.

Pose 1

Sit in Easy Pose with your hands resting on your knees. Lift the chest and draw the shoulders back. Holding that posture, vibrate the front of the face with a very rapid, very short up and down motion. Aim to move the forehead alone. Let the breath find its own rhythm. Stay with it for 8 to 9 minutes. This is Mastak Subhaee. It works on the change and replacement of gray matter in the brain.

Pose 2

Stay in Easy Pose with the hands on the knees. Roll the head on the neck in the shape of a sideways figure eight. The chin drops to the center of the chest with each circle, twice in one full repetition of the movement. Keep it powerful and steady, giving equal timing to every revolution of the head. Continue for 3 minutes at a moderate pace, then sit still for 30 seconds. This is the Infinity Kriya. It is very powerful and must be done carefully and consciously. It balances the central ear, which governs clear and conscious thought.

Pose 3

Still in Easy Pose, extend the arms straight out from the sides of the body at shoulder level, hands in fists with the thumbs outside. Inhale and pull both fists in to the top of the shoulders, stretching the elbows out as powerfully as you can while you flex the biceps. Exhale and return to the original position. Keep the motion going for 9 minutes. In the class a soft devotional recording accompanied this exercise.

Remain in Easy Pose. Still listening to that recording, stretch the arms straight out in front and upward at a 45 degree angle, palms facing down, fingers held together on each hand. In this position, shake the head as fast as you can in a very short sideways motion. Keep the skull moving without pause for 1 minute. Inhale and relax.
