Spine and Nervous System

Spinal Set with Ardha Matsyendrasana

This set wrings the spine, floods it with circulation, and lifts kundalini up the central channel toward the seat of meditation. The twist is the old doorway to the siddhis, the heart opens in the second movement, and the third drives the energy up to the crown. You are not stretching. You are pulling the serpent awake and feeding it up the nadis.

Ardha-Matsyendrasana (Spinal Twist)

Pose 1

Ardha-Matsyendrasana (Spinal Twist)

Sit in Easy Pose and cross the right leg over the left knee. Reach the left arm around the outside of the right leg and grab the right foot or ankle, twisting the spine and neck to look over the right shoulder. Sit evenly on both buttocks, not on the heel, and keep the spine perfectly straight. Hold the pose with Breath of Fire for 6 minutes. Inhale, hold, pull Mulbhand, and relax. Reverse arms and legs and repeat. Then relax with long, deep breathing for 2 to 3 minutes. The longer you stay in the pose, the easier it is to hold.
