Conquering Depression

Depression is the nervous system collapsing in on itself, prana fallen still in the lower nadis. This kriya is a deliberate flooding of that stillness. You arch the spine open, invert the body, shake the sacrum loose, then leave the floor entirely until the stagnation has nowhere left to hide. By the time you lie face down to sleep, the channels are clear and the kundalini has somewhere to rise.

Slowly arch your whole body up into wheel pose. Inhale through the nose, exhale through the mouth. Keep the breath slow, the inhale and exhale both deep and full. Hold and breathe this way for 5 minutes.

Come into shoulder stand. From there, lower your left leg down until the toes touch the ground behind your head. As you lift the left leg back to vertical, lower the right leg down to touch its toes to the ground behind your head. Keep this alternating motion going. Inhale through the nose, exhale through the mouth.

Continue counting the breath to close the previous movement. Minutes.

Lie down flat with your legs straight. In one motion, roll the right knee out to the right and the left knee out to the left at the same time. Then bring both knees back to center. Roll the knees rapidly, breathing from the navel in rhythm with the movement. This adjusts the sacrum and lower back. Continue for 5 minutes.

Lie on your back and raise both arms straight up to ninety degrees. Leaving the arms up, raise and lower the legs one at a time. Each time a leg reaches ninety degrees, catch the foot with your hands and quickly massage the toes. Keep the pace fast. Continue for 3 minutes.

Lie flat on your back and jump like popcorn popping, every part of your body moving. Continue for 4-1/2 minutes.

Turn onto your stomach and jump your whole body all around, moving vigorously. Continue for 1-1/2 minutes.
