Whahe Guru Kriya

Seven positions, one sound current. The head swings Whahe Guru through chair pose, backbends, and sphinx bows until the thyroid, pituitary, and pineal are worked from every angle, and then the body drops into meditation.

Poses 1-5

Come into chair pose: knees bent, back parallel to the ground, hands grasping the heels firmly, spine straight, head looking down. Turn the head toward the left shoulder and say Whahe; turn toward the right shoulder and say Guru. Alternate at a moderate pace so the sound runs continuous: Whahe Guru Whahe Guru.

Stand up straight with the hands on the hips. Lean backward, keeping the legs straight, and let the head fall back. Turn the head to the left and say Whahe; turn it to the right and say Guru.

Stand and bend forward a little so the hands rest on the knees. Keep the spine straight and tilt the head up. Chant Whahe as the head turns left and Guru as it turns right.

Stand tall and stretch the arms overhead, reaching for the sky. On Whahe the feet stay flat on the ground; on Guru rise up onto the toes. Vibrate up and down between the two sounds.

Sit on the heels and place the palms flat on the floor just in front of the knees, arms and spine straight, like a sphinx. Bend forward and touch the forehead to the ground chanting Guru, then rise back up chanting Whahe.

Sit in easy pose and whisper the panj shabad: Sa Ta Na Ma. After two minutes, chant it out loud for two more.

Come immediately onto the heels with the palms on the thighs. Flex the spine in rhythm with a powerful whisper: Sa flexing forward, Ta back, Na forward, Ma back. Then sit still and meditate.
